Opening the Lotus Sutra: A Non-residential Weekend Retreat

  • Mountain Rain Zendo 2016 Wall St Vancouver, BC, V5L 1J5 Canada (map)

Join us for this non-residential silent retreat which opens Mountain Rain's 16th annual fall practice period, led by resident teachers Myoshin Kate McCandless and Shinmon Michael Newton.

The Lotus Sutra is beloved in East Asian Mahayana Buddhist traditions, and is pivotal in Dogen's writings. It offers a compassionate and inclusive vision of the practice of the bodhisattva, who vows to awaken for the benefit of all beings. During this retreat and throughout the practice period we will explore how this ancient text supports our contemporary lives and practice.

The retreat is open to beginners and experienced practitioners. It will include zazen (sitting meditation), kinhin (walking meditation), dharma talks, and dokusan (individual meetings with the teachers).

Friday  7:00-9:00  The evening will close with a ceremony to open the practice period. Each participant will be invited to share their intentions for the practice period.

Saturday 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM

Sunday 9:00 - 4:00

Please bring your lunch both days. Dinner will be served on Saturday.
