Rohatsu: Buddha's Enlightenment Retreat

  • Mountain Rain Zendo 2016 Wall Street Vancouver, BC, V5L 1J5 Canada (map)

Please scroll to the end for Zoom links.

The most intensive sesshin (retreat) of the year in Zen monasteries is the December Rohatsu sesshin, in honour of Buddha’s enlightenment. Monks are encouraged to sit through the last night of sesshin, embodying the Buddha’s determination to stay in meditation beneath the bodhi tree until he understood the true nature of existence.

Because we hold our yearly Loon Lake sesshin in November, at Mountain Rain we typically have a 27-hour rohatsu intensive in December. After last year only being able to offer rohatsu on Zoom, this year we will offer limited in-person attendance (zendo capacity 17) with advance registration, according to our current Covid protocols (full vaccination, masking, spacing), along with Zoom access.

Schedule: (please note change in Saturday afternoon schedule, starting and ending 1/2 hr. earlier than shown on PDF below.)
