Introduction to Zen / Zazen tips and tricks

This class is for those who are new to Soto Zen practice and those who have some experience and want to learn more.   Participants are welcome to attend morning only, afternoon only, or both sessions. Please register below.

10:00-11:45

  • Introduction to Soto Zen,

  • zazen (sitting meditation), kinhin (walking meditation) and practice forms

12:15-2:00

  •  Zazen posture, physical aspects, and accessible alternatives to traditional sitting practice

  •  Tips and strategies

  • Opportunity to discuss any issues/concerns that you may be encountering during zazen.

Dai-i Flo Rublee received lay ordination in 1998 and priest ordination in 2010 from Zoketsu Norman Fischer. She was shuso (head student) for our 2008 practice period. She is a retired physiotherapist and lives on the Sunshine Coast.

Kakuko Kaye Simard: received lay ordination in 2015 and priest ordination in 2019 from Myoshin Kate McCandless and Shinmon Michael Newton. She was shuso for our 2020 practice period. She is an (almost) retired registered nurse, with a wide range of experience., and lives in Vancouver.

Fee: This class is offered on a sliding scale basis ($0-20) depending on your means. Everyone is welcome.

Dana: Class fees go to support our programs, not to the teacher. Dana (the practice of generosity) supports their ability to offer the dharma/teachings. Dana can be offered to the teachers by e-transfer.
