37 Practices of a Bodhisattva:

  • Mountain Rain Zen Community 2016 Wall Street Vancouver, B.C. Canada (map)
Right now you have a good boat, fully equipped and available, hard to find.
To free yourself and others from the sea of samsara, day and night, constantly, study, reflect and meditate—this is the practice of a bodhisattva.
— Tokme Zongpo

In this dharma seminar we will read and discuss a classic text from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Composed in the fourteenth century by Tokme Zongpo, the 37 verses offer clearly worded guidance and practices for following the bodhisattva path, to awaken for the benefit of all beings. We will rely on a commentary by Ken McLeod, teacher of Tibetan Buddhism, called Reflections on Silver River. after the location of Tokme Zongpo’s hermitage. Please join us to explore the teachings of these verses and how they might help us live in this complex and difficult world.

Dharma seminar sessions consist of two zazen periods, an informal talk, sometimes writing reflections (bring a notebook), and small/large group talking circles. Part of our regular Wednesday evening practice schedule. Everyone welcome! By donation.
