From the time of the Buddha, the practice of dana or generosity has been fundamental to Buddhist practice. Practicing dana opens the heart and reminds us we are all interconnected.

Mountain Rain strives to create and maintain a vibrant Soto Zen practice community serving the Vancouver area and beyond. Zendo rental and other expenses are financed through the fees charged for retreats and from donations by members and others. Our two guiding teachers are supported by the community through a monthly stipend of $500 each and individual dana, or voluntary donations, depending on each person’s means and level of participation. Our founding teacher, practice leaders, and guest teachers also receive individual dana.

It is possible to give in many ways, including physical labor, contributing to committee meetings, and, of course, by offering financial support. Members who donate financially are an essential part of the life and work of Mountain Rain Zen Community. Having a reliable source of income every month allows us to pay the rent, utilities and supplies, provide our teachers’ stipend, and administrative director’s salary, and to maintain our capacity to offer reduced retreat fees to those on limited income. Please note that donations for the teachers are separate from this.

  • Please use the donation form below. Only donations made through the form will receive a tax receipt.

  • We encourage monthly donations, but donations at other intervals are also much appreciated.

  • How much you choose to give is entirely up to you.

  • Cheques may be made out to Mountain Rain Zen Community and sent to 2016 Wall St. Vancouver, BC, V5L 1B1 (Sorry, no tax receipts will be issued for cheques.)

  • E-transfers can be sent to treasurer@mountainrainzen.org. No security question required. (Sorry, no tax receipts will be issued for e-transfers.)

MRZC is a non-profit organization with charitable status. A tax receipt will be provided for donations through CanadaHelps with the form below. Please note that we cannot provide tax receipts for cheque and e-transfer donations due to the administrative costs this would incur.

We are very grateful for the ongoing support of a wide circle of community (sangha). You are welcome to practice with Mountain Rain whether you are a member or not, and regardless of ability to contribute financially. Supporters are always welcome to contribute in volunteer capacities, as they are able.
