In April, 2023 Mountain Rain Zen Community opened our new practice space, Bright Stream Temple (Kōryūji in Japanese), the former location of the Vancouver Zen Centre. This development allows us to offer the opportunity to deepen one’s Zen practice in a small residential community engaged with a larger lay practice community.

Our intention is for Bright Stream Temple and the Wall St. zendo to serve the larger sangha in complementary ways.

Residential practice extends through the rhythms of the day, including zazen, work practice in the house and garden, study, weekly meetings and personal commitments.

Residents provide the mooring of daily practice. Sangha members are welcome to attend practice at Bright Stream, and to volunteer in garden and house maintenance.

HERE is our temple schedule.

KORYUJI TEMPLE

We ask residents to commit to the precepts of right conduct and speech.

We aspire always to engage in respectful and caring communication and, when dealing with difference, letting best practices guide our discussions, problem solving, and conflict resolution.

Both long and short-term residency are offered on an application and as-available basis.

We give priority for long-term residencies to those with a well-established practice. Short-term residencies are open to newer practitioners.

A long-term residency is $950/mo.

There are two kinds of shorter residencies:

  • Less than one month: for practice at the temple - $30/night. Residents are responsible for providing their own food.

  • "Over-Nights": 1-3 nights for people who are staying in order to participate in an event such as a retreat - by donation. Please note, this is not considered "included" in retreat fees.
