In Japan, Jizo Bodhisattva is beloved as the protector of children who have died. Those who have experienced the loss of a child, through death, miscarriage or abortion, often leave symbolic gifts and messages with Jizo images to express their feelings.

You are invited to gather in community to remember and honour your loss. We will begin with a short meditation and talk. We will each make a Jizo image or other memento to take with us, and share a simple ceremony of remembrance.  For anyone who has grieved the loss of a child, at any age, whether in your immediate family or beyond. You are invited to bring a photo to place on the altar. Informal refreshments to follow.

All are welcome. No previous meditation experience required. Buddhist teachings and practices are presented in a non-sectarian and accessible format. No previous experience of meditation or Buddhism necessary. Plenty of chairs, meditation benches and cushions available.

Led by Kate McCandless: Kate is a Zen priest and teacher of the Mountain Rain Zen Community, and a registered clinical counsellor. She has worked in the hospice field for many years as a bereavement counsellor, program coordinator, and volunteer trainer.
