Dogen Zenji
Just as a bird needs two wings to fly we need to develop two aspects of awakening: wisdom and compassion. Zazen is a key practice to develop wisdom, but how do we cultivate compassion for ourselves and others? In this retreat we will explore bodhicitta, the compassionate heart of awakening, and practices to deepen our compassion and open our hearts.
The retreat will include periods of zazen (sitting meditation), guided compassion practices, kinhin (walking meditation), dharma talks each day, and dokusan, individual meetings with the teacher.
Meals: Please bring a bag lunch on Saturday. The Saturday evening and Sunday noon meals will be provided.
Everyone welcome, whether you are new to Zen practice or experienced.
Shinmon Michael Newton is co-guiding teacher of Mountain Rain Zen Community.
