Preparing for Death: a day retreat with Myoshin Kate McCandless and Joko Claire Talbot

  • Mountain Rain Zendo 2016 Wall St. Vancouver, BC Canada (map)

How can we ever be prepared for death? Our culture surrounds us with images of death, yet encourages us to think it will never happen to us or our loved ones. Buddhist teachings and practices support us to turn towards death, with an open mind and compassionate heart. In this retreat we will share both contemplative reflections and practical measures (living wills, representation agreements, power of attorney) to help us face the prospect of death, our own or a loved one’s, with more ease.

Everyone is welcome. No previous experience of meditation or Buddhism necessary. Plenty of chairs, meditation benches and cushions available.

Buddhist teachings and practices are presented in a non-sectarian and accessible format.

Please bring a bag/box lunch. Herbal tea will be provided.

Myoshin Kate McCandless is a Zen priest and co-guiding teacher of the Mountain Rain Zen Community. A former registered clinical counsellor, she worked in the hospice field for many years as a bereavement counsellor, program coordinator and volunteer trainer.
