Unpacking the Whiteness of Leadership: A Sunday Talk by Caro and River

  • Mountain Rain Zen Community 2016 Wall Street Vancouver, B.C. Canada (map)

Over the summer, a number of Mountain Rain folks - including our teachers - attended a series of online classes facilitated by Branching Streams - a network of Dharma Centers in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi.

This course was organized out of an awareness that we are experiencing a moment when white people are becoming more aware of the terrible impact of racial inequality. In the States, we have seen large demonstrations arising from the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.

Branching Streams asked how dharma practitioners and leaders, might use the energy of this time to confront and address the suffering of racial injustice and move toward greater inclusiveness and racial equity in North American sanghas.

Sangha friends Caro Embling and River Shannon will give a co-talk sharing their experience of the course and ways we might explore these questions together going forward.

Part of our regular Sunday schedule, all welcome.
