Our body/mind is intricately interconnected to the beings and processes that sustain our lives. Rather than a linear food-chain, it’s a food web. How can we cultivate right relationship with food in a culture that values cheap, fast, sweet and salty food.
In this retreat we will explore practices that support a wholesome and mindful relationship to the food we eat. It will include sitting and walking meditation (zazen/kinhin), meal preparation and clean-up. Lunch will be included, and we will practice the Zen tradition of eating with oryoki, three bowls—taking just the right amount. There will be informal talks by the teacher and reflection circles on the principles of mindful eating. We will be in noble silence except for the reflection circles and functional talking for kitchen practice.
The retreat will be led by MRZC Guiding Teacher, Myoshin Kate McCandless, who has done several Mindful Eating retreats with Jan Chozen Bays of Great Vow Monastery in Oregon.
