Difference and Unity: Encountering Injustice on the Bodhisattva Path

  • Mountain Rain Zendo 2016 Wall Street Vancouver, BC, V5L 1J5 Canada (map)
Without inner change there can be no outer change, without collective change, no change matters.

Rev. angel Kyodo williams

At the Mountain Rain Zendo we regularly chant the Sandokai, translated as "Merging of Difference and Unity", or "Identity of Relative and Absolute" or "Harmony of Difference and Equality."

In a time when differences seem heightened and fraught with disharmony, how can our practice support us to live in full awareness of the simultaneous truths of difference and unity, not allowing either one to blind us to the other? In this dharma seminar, we will explore our individual and collective experiences of gender, sexuality, race, class and species difference and unity. How can this teaching of the two truths guide us to respond to injustice with wise and compassionate speech and action?

Dharma seminar sessions will consist of two zazen periods, an informal talk, writing reflections (bring a notebook), small/large group discussion, followed by tea and snacks in the kitchen.

Everyone is welcome. By donation.
