Please join ZenYU for this yearly ceremony.
The word sejiki means feeding the hungry ghosts, those beings whose insatiable desires keep them in a realm of torment, unable to practice the Buddha Way. In this ceremony we will make food offerings, symbolizing the nourishment of the Dharma, to the hungry ghost realm within ourselves and in the world. Costumes and masks are welcome, so that the hungry ghosts will not be too intimidated to join us.
Arrive early and help carve a pumpkin for the altar. Zendo doors open at 7:00.
Please bring refreshments to nourish the hungry ghosts and each other.
Myoshin Kate McCandless will give a talk on the six realms of existence, including the hungry ghost realm.
We won’t have a Food Bank basket at the zendo this year, but please make a contribution in whatever way you are able to support those in our own communities who cannot afford good food.
