Hungry Ghosts Ceremony (Sejiki) at ZenYU

  • Mountain Rain Zendo (map)

Please join ZenYU for this year’s Hungry Ghosts Ceremony. The word sejiki means feeding the hungry ghosts, those beings whose insatiable desires keep them in a realm of torment, unable to practice the Buddha Way. In this ceremony we will make food offerings, symbolizing the nourishment of the Dharma, to the hungry ghost realm within ourselves and in the world. Costumes and masks are welcome, so that the hungry ghosts will not be too intimidated to join us.

Arrive early and help carve a pumpkin for the altar. Zendo doors open at 7:30.

One zazen period, ceremony, talk by one of the Mountain Rain teachers, and tea circle.

In-person at the zendo, and on Zoom.

We will have a Food Bank basket at the zendo, for donations. Please make a contribution in whatever way you are able to support those in our own communities who cannot afford good food.
