Dharma Seminar - Opening the Hand of Thought

  • Mountain Rain Zen Community Wall Street zendo + Bright Stream temple + online Vancouver, B.C. Canada (map)

A ten week dharma seminar with MRZC guiding teachers and practice leaders. Based on the book by the wonderful twentieth century Japanese Zen teacher Kosho Uchiyama Roshi. His teachings are accessible, down-to-earth, wise and humorous.  He was a student of Kodo Sawaki Roshi ("Homeless Kodo"), and the teacher of Shohaku Okumura Roshi, Kate and Michael's first Soto Zen teacher in Japan. Weekly chapter and speaker will be posted on the website homepage calendar. If you have the book you are welcome to follow along, but advance reading is not necessary.

Part of regular Wednesday Practice. At both locations, and online. Everyone welcome!

Our Wednesday practice sessions typically consist of:

  • 25 minute sitting meditation (zazen)

  • 10 minute walking meditation (kinhin)

  • 25 minute sitting meditation (zazen)

  • Dharma seminar: a series on a particular text or theme led by our Guiding Teachers. The format is an informal talk by the teacher, followed by small-group talking circles, sometimes with a writing exercise.
