Thursday February 29 from 7:30–9:00 PM at the Wall Street Zendo
This peer-led sitting group was created by and for *racialized folks to foster mutual support and understanding for those who identify as a racialized person and who find inspiration in the practice of Buddhism. It is open to all meditators regardless of experience. The group’s intention is to provide safety and belonging to meditate and explore contemplative practices. The group is offered regularly on the last Thursday of the month, in person, from 7:30–9:00 PM.
The Four Elements of Love: The Alchemy of Connection and Embodied Presence. Over the next number of months, we will explore the Brahmaviharas. Thich Nhat Hanh describes them as the four elements of love: love, compassion, joy, and equanimity. These four elements are invitations for a greater embodied presence to support connection, transformation and healing. Some of the materials we will draw upon:
Teaching on Love, Thich Nhat Hanh
Rest is Resistance, Tricia Hersey
Home is Here, Lien Shutt
All About Love, bell hooks
and other sources
Please see the Collective Liberation page for the current schedule.
* In recognizing that “race” is a social construct, we are using the term “racialized person” or racialized group, instead of what may be considered less accurate terms such as “racial minority”, “visible minority”, “person of colour” or “non-White”. We are also mindful that, when it comes to “race” and the terms one uses to self-identify, using a broad term to describe a group is equally as challenging and there is no one-size-fits-all language.
